Shadow’s vocal were heard in the early morning, but not again until the evening just after he flew by. A sub-adult was flying behind him but stopped to perch on Twin Pines and then the Simba Tree before flying off to join Shadow on the roost tree that he and Jackie typically share, especially during nesting season. We don’t know why this sub-adult likes Shadow’s company, so we’re watching and learning without casting aspersions. This sub-adult has beat the odds for a 4-year survival rate, which is 30-50% in the first year, increasing to 80-90% in years 2-4 (per National Eagle Center). This eagle deserves our respect, like all other wildlife. Missed seeing Sandy and Luna again today and wish them a safe night along with all Big Bear eagles.
