A man reached out to steady a falling golden box and he was dead before it hit the ground.

His name was Uzzah. He wasn't a thief. He wasn't an enemy. He was a Levite who had lived beside the Ark of the Covenant for twenty years. And God killed him instantly.

But Uzzah wasn't the first. Aaron's sons died. Seventy men in a wheat field died. Three entire Philistine cities were emptied. The body count attached to the Ark of the Covenant is far higher than most people realize.

So why did the best thing Israel had keep killing them?
