The hearing arose from a petition filed by the Cure SMA India Foundation, alleging that Samay Raina had made insensitive remarks about the treatment costs of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and had ridiculed persons with disabilities. During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Aparajita Singh, appearing for the Foundation, informed the Court that despite earlier assurances, Samay Raina had neither contacted the organisation nor invited persons with disabilities to participate in his shows. The Court also questioned the claim that a compliance affidavit had been filed, noting that no such affidavit was available on record. In one of the strongest moments of the hearing, CJI Surya Kant remarked that some people believe that by sitting outside India they are beyond the Court's jurisdiction, adding, "If this is not arrogance, then we have to change the Oxford Dictionary."

Emphasising the need to protect the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities, the Supreme Court directed comedians and influencers, including Samay Raina and others, to conduct two programmes every month highlighting the success stories of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with the objective of generating funds for the treatment of disabled persons, particularly those suffering from SMA.
