When Harrow's campaign reaches Crow territory, Elle Fanning as Étienne Declan, a young French-Canadian trapper's daughter, barely escapes the massacre and journeys through the wilderness to find the legendary man the Natives call "the one who returned," begging him to fight a war he swore he had left behind. Kristen Stewart plays Takoda, a fierce Crow warrior willing to die defending her homeland, who stands beside Glass as he leads a desperate winter campaign through frozen passes and brutal terrain, using the mountain itself as a weapon against Harrow's advancing forces in a war fought not between armies but between two men, one who believes the frontier belongs to the nation and one who knows it belongs to no one.
