🦅🌲 Why did Sandy and Luna fly away from the Big Bear Valley nest? The two young bald eagles have been spending more time away from the nest as they continue developing their flying skills and becoming more independent. Sandy and Luna may fly to nearby trees, practice their landing and takeoff skills, explore their territory, follow each other, look for food, or simply find a comfortable place to perch and rest. As juvenile eagles grow, the nest gradually becomes less of their entire world. Spending time away is an important part of learning how to navigate their surroundings and eventually live independently.
