A review of my recent 14-night aurora cruise from Southampton to Northern Norway in search of the northern lights aboard Fred Olsen Balmoral by Travel Writer & Cruise Ship Enrichment Speaker David Nikel

Now, Ive long said I have a 100% record of seeing chicago bulls the northern lights at sea. Yes, every time Id been on a northern lights cruise before this trip, Id seen aurora.

I even said it on stage in front of hundreds of hopeful guests at the beginning of this cruise. But inside, well, I wasnt quite so confident this time!

On the one hand, this was a 14-night itinerary with 4 ports north of the Arctic Circle. That was a major plus. But on the other hand, it was November. In Norway, its a month known for dreadful weather, storms, big waves, and cloud cover.

So which would win out? The Arctic opportunities or the November realities? There was only one way to find out.
