Hawley grills U.S. postmaster general [Z25mVxfjgp7]

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) on Wednesday grilled U.S. Postmaster General David Steiner after he denied knowledge of a large pile of undelivered mail found in his home state. "The Postal Service promised the public and me when this was discovered that there would be a full accounting of this, we would find out what happened and we'd have a full and total investigation and complete transparency — and since that time, I've heard nothing," the senator told the U.S. Postal Service chief during a hearing. "It's the first time I've heard about it," Mr. Steiner replied. The stack of missing mail from April consisted of tax documents, bills, letters from health care providers and more, with some dating back to January. Sen. Hawley said the postmaster general should resign if things don't get better, and pressed him on why he was accepting bonuses as the Postal Service struggles with on-time deliveries. "You think that this situation is funny? Let the record reflect the postmaster general is laughing as he gets asked why he's taking bonuses while there's piles of undelivered mail in my state," Sen. Hawley said. "It's an absolute disgrace." "Let the record reflect that I was laughing when you said we have been given everything we've been asked for," Mr. Steiner shot back. #joshhawley #senate #usps #postalservice #cspan
