Fiona & Dash's Rare Encounter on the Big Bear Bald Eagle Nest! 🐿️🐁 Tonight we witnessed something truly special - Fiona, our beloved San Bernardino flying squirrel, and Dash, the adventurous deer mouse, appeared together on Jackie and Shadow's nest! This is the rare moment eagle family fans have been waiting for - both members of the clean-up crew on camera at the same time! 🐿️ ABOUT FIONA (San Bernardino Flying Squirrel): Fiona is a nocturnal "expert glider" with a distinctive thick, flat paddle-like tail that helps her steer and brake during glides of up to 300 feet! She visits the nest after dark to scavenge for eagle leftovers and plays a vital role in forest health by spreading truffle fungi spores throughout the forest floor. 🐁 ABOUT DASH (Deer Mouse): Dash is our regular deer mouse visitor who bravely scurries onto the nest at night, nibbling on food scraps - especially leftover fish bits from Shadow's deliveries. With his characteristic large ears and streamlined body, Dash has become a fan favorite! 🦅 CURRENT NEST STATUS (February 5, 2026): Jackie and Shadow are being monitored for a potential replacement clutch after their eggs were lost to ravens on January 30, 2026.
