Sarasota County Stormwater Update: Storm Preparation Ahead of the Holiday Weekend [N8MfHlBPxbA]
Public Works Director Spencer Anderson shares an update on how the Stormwater team is taking steps ahead of this weekend’s anticipated heavy rainfall. From clearing critical infrastructure to reinforcing key areas, the team is focused on reducing potential impacts and keeping our community safe. Here's what they’re doing to prepare: - Yesterday, July 2, sandbags were offered to the public at all three normal locations from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Water control structures at the Celery Fields and along Cow Pen Slough were opened on Monday, June 30 to lower the upstream water levels and maximize system capacity for forecasted heavy rainfall. - Yesterday, July 2, around 200 "hot spots" were inspected and maintained. - Generators and pump stations have been checked and serviced for proper operation. - Personnel will continue stormwater maintenance activities daily (including the holiday), weather permitting. - 24/7 On-call teams are assigned and will provide operational response during non-working hours.
