Former UFC fighter and current MMA analyst Anthony Smith was ordered held on a $500,000 bond Wednesday after prosecutors outlined new allegations stemming from a domestic violence case in Sarpy County. Smith, 38, appeared in Sarpy County Court on charges of domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, first-degree false imprisonment and terroristic threats. Judge George Thompson set bond at $500,000 and ordered Smith to have no contact with his wife as a condition of his release. He also cannot leave Nebraska without court approval. During Wednesday’s hearing, prosecutors alleged the incident began Sunday night after Smith was removed from a concert during Gretna Days following an altercation. According to prosecutors, Smith threatened to kill his wife if she did not get into his vehicle and return home with him. They alleged he forcibly pushed her into the vehicle and continued making threats after she exited the vehicle during the drive. Once the couple arrived at their Gretna home, prosecutors alleged Smith attempted multiple times to strike his wife with his vehicle. They said she avoided injury by jumping out of the way. Prosecutors also alleged witnesses helped Smith’s wife and the couple’s children leave the home after Smith went inside. They further alleged witnesses heard gunshots from inside the residence and that Smith told others he would kill himself if law enforcement entered the home. The Sarpy County Attorney’s Office later released a statement saying investigators allege Smith “attempted multiple times to use the vehicle to strike” his wife after returning home and that she was able to avoid being hit. Smith’s defense team told the court he plans to stay with a family friend in Nebraska City if he posts bond. Smith waived his preliminary hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 17 in Sarpy County.
