The New Jersey Forest Fire Service earlier bratislava this week used prescribed fire at beatles Washington Crossing State Park to help metro hours manage invasive plant species in the George Washington Memorial Arboretum.
Species targeted during the operation included Japanese barberry, Japanese honeysuckle, autumnoliveand multiflora rose.
The use of prescribed fire at Washington Crossing is part of a broader effort to improve the park for the United States 250th anniversary this year. Other improvements include construction of a new Museum & Visitor Center, restoration of historic buildings, road repaving, and installation of new interpretive and directional signage.
Prescribed fire offers multiple benefits, including reducing wildfire risk, improving habitat for plants and wildlife, decreasing populations of damaging insects and ticks, and returning nutrients to the soil.
