Hurricanes, typhoons ravage Hawaii and Japan [00Rw94cs4Vv]
This past week saw four storms in a rare back-to-back line up in the Pacific Ocean. Hurricane Iselle struck Hawaii, affecting mainly the big island of Hawaii, knocking out power to as many as 10,000 and causing localized flash flooding and downed trees. Hot on her heels was Hurricane Julio, but the storm will track about 300km to the north, missing the Hawaii Islands entirely. Hurricane Genevieve crossed the International Date Line, becoming a typhoon in the process, however it is predicted to track northerly and break up in colder waters. At the western end of the Pacific was Typhoon Halong, which dealt the southwestern Japanese islands of Kyushu and Shikoku a severe blow with high winds, heavy rains and land slides.
