Two people are feared dead and dozens of others are missing or injured after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu on Tuesday. At least 10 people are feared to be trapped in the rubble of a shopping centre, and a further 11 were trapped under the debris of a factory. The shopping centre in Kashima Town was damaged in an explosion, believed to have been triggered by a gas leak at the building, according to Japan's NHK national television. The second floor of the Aeon Mall shopping centre collapsed, trapping an unknown number of people there, the local fire department said. Four people were pulled out with injuries and taken to a hospital, while 10 others were unaccounted for, the Kumamoto prefectural emergency response team said. It said the extent of the damage was still being investigated as the search and rescue effort continued. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: • Get breaking news and more stories at Follow ITV News on TikTok Follow ITV News on Instagram: Follow ITV News on Facebook: Follow ITV News on X:
