U.S. and Saudi forces launched military strikes overnight against Iran-backed militia targets across eastern Iraq following a surge in aerial drone attacks. According to U.S. Central Command, fighter aircraft struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites in a strong response to over 30 IRGC-directed aerial drone attacks in the last 72 hours. The strikes came shortly after reports of an Iranian surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East, with Jordan claiming to have intercepted five missiles. The military action followed a gathering in Washington for the funeral of South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. In attendance were Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, both of whom sat down with President Donald Trump in separate meetings. Prime Minister Netanyahu dismissed reports of a growing rift with the president, who may be increasingly impatient with Israeli pressure to ratchet up attacks on Iran, noting of his meeting with Trump, "It was great. It was one of the best meetings that we've had." Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy told Trump that Russia is helping Iran target U.S. forces. President Zelenskyy also visited Capitol Hill to review progress on a Russian sanctions bill, an effort championed by Senator Graham.
