Pirates Esmerlyn Valdez Hit By Pitch, Injured, Removed From Game [mtd2TTazn8Y]
The Pirates rookie and rising star Esmerlyn Valdez was hit by a pitch from the Diamondbacks Merrill Kelly in the bottom of the 4th inning on Monday night. Valdez was injured and had to be removed from the game. The Pirates went on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA; as they fight for a Wild Card spot for the MLB playoffs. The injury to Valdez is very concerning because he’s been having a good season (14 home runs, 36 RBIs and batting .290 in 38 games) and the Pirates have a number of starters already on the injured list.
