Today, Stand.earth and local groups dropped by #PNWClimateWeek in Seattle, Washington to see @Microsoft’s Chief Sustainability Officer Melanie Nakagawa, who – despite the company’s massive investments in fossil fuels – ironically served as the keynote speaker for a talk on climate targets. 🙋 Our question to her: "Your own data says Microsoft's real emissions are up 80% since 2020. You just signed three deals for gas infrastructure that will double your emissions. And yet you still say you will be carbon-negative by 2030. How does that make any sense?" Earlier this week, the company shared its “un-sustainability” report, which completely left out Microsoft’s rising emissions from its data centers, three fossil fuel mega-projects it’s supporting, and the growing resistance from communities trying to protect their neighborhoods and schools from data center expansion.
