This is the latest update (as of 7/18/26) regarding the bald eagle that was rescued today in Big Bear, CA.. From the FOBBV team: Dear Eagle Family, We do not have a further update on the bald eagle rescued in Big Bear in the early morning hours. The initial wildlife rescue group did a light exam and did not see any obvious injuries other than the eagle seemed lethargic, but that it was still somewhat active. The eagle was later transferred to another wildlife group that is more equipped and experienced in these rescues. We have been in contact with them and when they have any information to share, they will reach out to us. Initial exams, tests and/or x-rays can take time to get results. When we hear something, we will relay that information to you. Thank you for your well wishes for the eagle and please be patient during this difficult time. The FOBBV Team. ************* There is no confirmation that the eagle rescued in Big Bear, today is Jackie. Wildlife raptor specialists are stabilizing the bird and assessing its condition. To determine why the eagle was found grounded and lethargic. For now, the most important thing is that this eagle is safe and in the best hands. Many thanks and appreciation to the Friends of Big Bear Valley team and to everyone involved in the rescue and care of the eagle. Meanwhile, Shadow continues to do an incredible job caring for Sandy and Luna. There were several fish deliveries to the nest and both eaglets ate very well.. Please keep the eagle rescued today, in your thoughts. It's in the best hands and receiving the best possible care. The FOBBV team is gathering the facts, and further updates will be shared as soon as the information is verified. ************ Big Bear covers a vast area, and Eagles of many different ages regularly pass through the region. So there is no way to know yet whether the rescued eagle is Jackie or another bird entirely. Until more information is confirmed, it is best not to assume the worst, or speculate. This is an especially active time around Big Bear, with many eagles moving through the area. Shadow is doing an outstanding job caring for Sandy and Luna, as male eagles often do while the female takes time away after the demanding nesting season. Both young eagles are growing stronger, becoming more independent, and learning the skills they will need for the next stage of their lives. There are many reasons to remain hopeful.
