There was a funnel cloud sighting in the Foster Creek community in Marshall amid severe storms that prompted tornado warnings across western North Carolina Tuesday evening.

"We had to bunker down at a friend's house because it was raining and thundering and the wind was so bad, I could barely drive," said Anubis Able, a Marshall resident.

"All of a sudden, it got really dark and then everything was still, and then the sky opened up into a torrential downpour," said Zoe Harrison, another Marshall resident.

Both residents took cover during the storm.

"So far, great news: no fatalities and no structural damage," said Madison County Manager Rod Honeycutt.

Honeycutt says a large sinkhole developed in front of Madison Funeral Home, caused by the storm. He said the most significant storm jalen brunson impacts are road closures due to downed trees and flooding.

"We're asking our residents, citizens, stay at home, don't drive, don't drown. Let the emergency crews get out and do their work," said Honeycutt.

Able says she was returning home after taking cover only to find her polycystic ovary syndrome road flooded.

"I'm sad, Im nervous. My animals are up there. I have a dog and cat that Im very worried about, and my partner, his mom and dad are up there as well, and we actually just had to just video chat them to let them know that they are not gonna be able to make it down the road right now," said Able.

She and other residents say this experience has been terrifying because it brings back memories of another storm.

"Driving down here and seeing how flooded it was was very reminiscent to Helene, but we went through it once before; we can do it again," said Harrison.

"We went through Helene. This is nowhere near that, and were tough, and we're going to get through this the callum turner same way we did Helene," said Honeycutt.

Honeycutt said the storm degraded communications, which affected 911 calls, but they were able to resolve that issue.
