NJ Air Quality - Worst in 43 Years! Yesterday (Wednesday - 06-08-2023) was the worst air quality day for New Jersey in 43 years and today didn't feel a whole lot better. At 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Hillsborough in Somerset County reported an air quality index of 486. Anything above 300 is considered hazardous, the worst possible rating on the air quality index, and means everyone should stay inside with the doors and windows shut, according to the EPA.
