A 16-year-old lifeguard is speaking out for the first time after rescuing a 10-year-old boy from powerful waves at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. Ryder Williams said he jumped into the ocean on July 25 after seeing the young boy lose his footing in ankle-deep water. As waves repeatedly crashed over them, Ryder fought to bring the child safely back to shore. "This is my job, and I love what I do," Ryder said. The boy's father, Sumit Rai, told ABC San Francisco station KGO-TV that his son, Nathaniel, was vacationing in California with his mother and sister when the rescue happened. Rai said he experienced the terrifying ordeal for the first time by watching the now-viral rescue video. "If I was watching that video, I wasn't sure if he'll make it, if I hadn't seen the end of it. And I wasn't sure, honestly, if the lifeguard would make it out with those conditions," Rai said. "I'm just so grateful that Ryder and others were there to help pull him out and save his life.
