Our FLOCK Camera Guardrail Bill In Colorado Is Not Moving Forward [pLZ8hgfEfq0]
With a heavy heart, I am announcing that SB26-070 Ban Government Access Historical Location Information Database will not advance during this legislative session. Data technologies such as FLOCK or more broadly Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras can be useful to our law enforcement agencies and public safety officials, we cannot allow our state or our country to turn into a mass surveillance state. I support our law enforcement but I cannot support our data being taken away by corporations. SB26-070 would have allowed for clear guardrails and safeguards on how data captured by such cameras is used and stored. This bill's core principle was that ALPR data must require a judicial warrant to have access. Coloradans do not want to live in a society where they are constantly monitored. Even though this legislation failed at the state level, our efforts have brought attention to this issue on the privacy and data of FLOCK cameras. Legislation concerning ALPR cameras is being discussed on the federal level, but I encourage all of you to contact your local, state, and federal representatives to voice your concerns on this issue.
