Teen Lifeguard Rescues Boy From 8-Foot Waves in Santa Cruz [rXPozTur9j3]
A 16-year-old California State Parks lifeguard rescued a 10-year-old boy from eight-foot waves at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz. The child was swept roughly 15 yards offshore by a powerful current. Video captured by witness Scott Vander Dussen shows the lifeguard battling the surf while holding onto the boy. A second lifeguard arrived to assist, and the pair brought the child to shore safely. The boy was evaluated by paramedics and reunited with his parents. The waves were generated by Hurricane Genevieve. State Parks officials said it was one of 34 rescues over the weekend amid dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves, and urged beachgoers to leave rescues to trained professionals.
