The Chandler City Council is deciding whether to renew a contract worth more than $153,000 with Flock Safety for automated license plate reader cameras. A May 21 council meeting was briefly delayed after residents protesting the cameras refused to remove their signs, though Mayor Kevin Hartke ultimately allowed the meeting to proceed. Supporters argue the 40-camera network provides critical, objective investigative leads, while opponents contend the system creates a massive database used for unwarranted surveillance and profiling.
