The Art of Betye Saar [FzdQE8kJE7D]
Today, artist Betye Saar would have turned 100. We are honored to have worked with Betye, her studio, and her gallery on "Betye Saar's Black Dolls," which features watercolors, assemblages, and dolls from her collection, plus a doll that she created. Betye, who passed away earlier this week, had the ability to take found materials and transform them, give them new life. As our curator Rebecca Klassen says, "She seemed to suggest through her work that we could all become magicians in our own ways by doing what she did — by looking into the past lives of objects, seeing their energies and working them so that they could construct better futures, better worlds, and mystical imaginations."
