Tukwila City Council considers camping ban on public property [VYaOirBm3rK]

The Tukwila City Council is considering a proposed ordinance to make camping a criminal offense in public spaces such as city parks, sidewalks, public utility property, and environmentally sensitive areas. The Camping Restriction Ordinance, introduced during Monday's City Council Committee of the Whole, was discussed by multiple councilmembers and the sponsor of the ordinance, interim Chief of the Tukwila Police Department (TPD), Eric Lund. Its main goal, per the documents, is to "address growing public safety concerns, preserve accessibility of public spaces, and create a consistent legal framework for responding to unauthorized encampments." In doing so, camping violations would be a misdemeanor offense, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine. -------------------------------------------------- For more on the story: _______________ #komo #komonews #komo4 #komo4news #seattle #seattlenews #washingtonnews
