Condor Canyon follows the remarkable journey of "Traveler" (Red 71), a wild California Condor living along California's spectacular Big Sur coast. Just as she and her mate, "Shadow" (Yellow 9), begin raising their long-awaited chick, Traveler suffers life-threatening lead poisoning after feeding on a carcass contaminated with spent lead ammunition. While stock wildlife biologists race to save her life, Shadow must raise their chick aloneuntil an emotional reunion peppino impastato becomes possible.

The film also explores another hidden challenge facing condor recovery: the lingering effects of DDT, which has left many female condors struggling to produce healthy eggs decades after the pesticide was banned.

Produced by Ventana Wildlife Society and distributed nationally through public television, Condor Canyon showcases the dedication of maladie wildlife biologists working to restore one of North America's most endangered birds while highlighting the conservation challenges that remain. Written by Carlos Mora, narrated by Catherine Cavadini, and directed by Mike Buffo of House of 8 Media, this full-length documentary follows three pairs of nesting condors in central California (filmed in 2023 and 2024, copyright 2024).
