Watch Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction sing his group's classic "Mountain Song” live with a rock supergroup consisting of Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Gilby Clarke (Guns 'N Roses), Carl Restivo (Satellite Party), Eric Gardner, Wayne Kramer (MC5) and many more stars on May 1, 2009 at the Road Recovery 11-Year Anniversary Benefit Concert honoring the resilient Wayne Kramer. In celebration of Road Recovery's 25-year anniversary (1998-2023), our non-profit is diving into our video archives to present for the very first time, never-before-seen music performances from some of our most popular benefit concerts over the years. What do all these musicians have in common? They’re all supporters of Road Recovery - a non-profit that strives to help 10-25-year-olds manage (or avoid) the pitfalls and challenges of behavioral issues, physical or mental health trauma, poverty, or drug or alcohol dependency. Established in 1998, Road Recovery is an entertainment industry-driven non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people battle addiction and other adversities by empowering at-risk youth from all backgrounds to face their struggles while teaching them comprehensive life skills. “It’s about putting the smack down so you don’t put the smackdown,” joked Boots Riley before the 2009 benefit in New York City for Road Recovery. The bar at the Nokia Theatre was closed for the night as artist after artist took the stage to spread messages of clean living and to play a few songs. The rock supergroup segment opened with several jams led by five guitarists (Cantrell, Morello, Clarke and Kramer, plus Don Was on bass guitar), and were then joined by Perry Farrell for this upbeat rendition of “Mountain Song” off the classic album 'Nothing's Shocking'. Perry Farrell and the rock supergroup also performed the Jane's Addiction classic “Ain’t No Right.” Other star studded appearances during the Road Recovery Benefit Concert included performances by Handsome Dick Manitoba, Juliette Lewis and then Iggy Pop to close the show.
