JASON MEADE VERDICT: A jury found former Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Meade guilty of reckless homicide in the 2020 shooting death of Casey Goodson Jr. The judge declared a mistrial on the murder charge Thursday as the jury could not reach a decision. Meade pleaded not guilty to murder and reckless homicide charges. The first trial in 2024 ended in a mistrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict. Meade testified that Goodson waved a gun as they passed. He said he fired as Goodson entered his grandmother’s home and turned toward him with a gun. Goodson’s family says he was unlocking the door, holding sandwiches and keys when he was shot. There is no body camera video to confirm either account.
