FOBBV ~ BRIEF UPDATE ON JACKIE! SUB ADULT FOLLOWS SHADOW & PERCHES ON TWIN PINES WITH HIM! 7.22.26 [3PIjPtNlq6c]

From FOBBV: "Ojai Raptor Center reached out to us today with no update available. I know that is difficult to hear, but they did say Jackie has a team of specialists working on her case. She has the best of the best and that is all we can hope for now. They say once they have any additional information, they will contact us. They also mentioned they are aware of how important Jackie is to not only the FOBBV team, but her entire eagle family. Sandy and Luna seem to be exploring further out around the habitat, staying off camera for periods of time, but they do visit the nest daily, so we know they are doing fantastic. They missed a fish delivery by Shadow. This afternoon, Shadow was seen with a sub adult on the twin pines perch. It looked like Shadow had a lot to say about the sub adult being on his perch tree. It is difficult to be certain of which visiting eagle this was due to the distance, but it is possibly a 4+ year old female that has been hanging around and had the short skirmish with Jackie. I did speak with an eagle expert at a rescue center about Shadow and what he might do while Jackie is away. We do have to realize he is a wild and free eagle, and it is up to Shadow what direction he goes. The expert stated that due to the incredible bond Jackie and Shadow have, it would be unlikely for him to move on now. That he won’t likely be looking for a mate until his hormones kick in. We believe that is around the end of December or early January. We noticed that Jackie’s hormones seem to kick in earlier and she becomes frisky… and Shadow generally has a case of the December grumpies until his kick in. But again, Shadow will do what Shadow wants to, and we have no say so in the matter. " The sub adult is following Shadow both to Twin Pines & when Shadow leaves Twin Pines. They exchanged vocals while perching on TP - Shadow is making his presence known that this is his territory and to move on. Shadow does not want to engage in fighting with the sub adult - he is staying close to the nest tree and to Sandy & Luna. Shadow also perched on the Cactus Snag in the evening before retiring to the Roost Tree. Sandy is sleeping in the attic of the nest tree and Luna flew to Simba Tree to roost. Jackie & Shadow are the only known nesting pairs of eagles in Big Bear Valley. But at this time of the year there are a lot of floater eagles that are visiting as they pass through this area. Eagles do defend their territory against these floaters and we have seen Shadow defending his territory frequently now that Jackie is at Ojai Raptor Center undergoing tests for inflammation of her kidneys and anemia. Shadow will continue to take care of Sandy & Luna until they disperse on their own.
