Sharpening workout for Track Night NYC Mile at Icahn Stadium | 200, 400, 800, 400, 200 ladder [rkqdTBNGSHq]
We run a sharpening workout as our final workout for the Track Night NYC mile race on May 2 at Icahn Stadium in New York City. We are in our taper for the Lake Waramaug 50K on April 27. The workout comprises a "ladder" of 200, 400, 800, 400, 200 at or below mile race pace. The sharpening workout is focused on intensity and not volume, enables us to simulate each phase of the mile race, and gives a short speed stimulus without taxing us too much. Important update: I completed the 50K on Sunday (race video and learned several key lessons. I was undertrained going into the race and the tough weather conditions magnified the challenges. My immediate focus is on recovery and starting my next training block with several adjustments. Therefore, I'm withdrawing from the planned mile race. I will plan new mile races this spring and summer to achieve my goal of sub 6-minute mile.
