SHORT TC UPDATE: LIKELY CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE GENEVIVE CHURNING IN eastpacific OPEN WATERS (7.26.26) [pT7Us3gmhhW]
POWERFUL HURRICANE CHURNING IN THE OPEN EASTERN PACIFIC WATERS: While I typically don’t post about the Eastern Pacific much, since the Atlantic Basin is pretty much dead at the present moment, figured I speak briefly about what’s going on, on the other side of the CONUS out in the open waters of the Eastern Pacific with likely Category 5 Hurricane #Genevieve. Genevieve has rapidly intensified over the past 24-36 hours and is now an extremely powerful category 4 hurricane officially according to the National Hurricane Center, with their latest 9 PM CT advisory indicating this is at 155mph, with a pressure at 929mb. However, based off of available imagery and satellite estimations, it can be reasonably safe to say that Genevieve is likely at Category 5 intensity this evening. Regardless, this will continue to churn out in the open waters of the EPAC, well away from any landmasses whatsoever. But, with this likely at category 5 status (and potential for even more strengthening due to it remaining still in a favorable environment), this will make Genevive the 1st category 5 storm of the 2026 Hurricane Season (for the EPAC, Central Pacific and Atlantic Basins). 11:44 PM CT | 7.26.26 #tropics #hurricane #tropicswx #hurricaneseason
