Alison Saar’s evocative sculptures, paintings, prints, and installations explore race, gender, heritage, and the human experience. Primarily taking the form of the Black female figure, her work highlights historical and cultural narratives related to diasporic experiences, hidden histories, and African American identity. On August 27, 2024, following a screening of the film "Alison Saar: Found Spirit" (2024), Saar joined Rachel Rivenc, Head of Conservation and Preservation at the Getty Research Institute to explore her process and conservation philosophies. This program was presented as part of the Getty Conservation Institute’s Art in L.A. project, which studies the materials and fabrication processes of LA-based artists since the 1950s and the implications these materials and processes have for conservation. "Alison Saar: Found Spirit" is the latest film in Art in L.A.’s Artist Dialogues film series.
