Meet Jackie and Shadow Jackie, believed to be the first eaglet hatched in Big Bear Valley back in 2012, rose to fame in 2017 when she and her mate took over an abandoned nest equipped with a live-streaming camera. In 2018, Shadow joined Jackie, becoming her new mate. Since then, the pair have become beloved year-round residents of Big Bear Lake, captivating viewers with their nesting and parenting journey. Introducing Sunny and Gizmo – The 2025 Eaglets In early 2025, Jackie laid three eggs that hatched in March. The first eaglet arrived on March 3, followed by the second on March 4, and the third on March 8. Sadly, the youngest eaglet—later named Misty in honor of a devoted FOBBV volunteer—did not survive a severe snowstorm. The surviving eaglets, now named Sunny and Gizmo, were named through a community contest that drew over 54,000 entries. Final selections were made by local third, fourth, and fifth graders who cast their votes for the winning names. Life in the Nest Sunny, the older sibling by a day, is already showing early signs of eaglet development—stretching wings, balancing, and curiously exploring the nest. Gizmo, while more reserved at first, is quickly catching up and developing a personality of its own. Both eaglets enjoy playing with sticks and interacting with their environment. Jackie and Shadow remain attentive and protective, ensuring their chicks are well-fed and safe.
