Chief Meteorologist Nick Jansen has your First Alert Weather update for southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, and the Upper Midwest. After a couple of unseasonably cool days, summer heat and humidity return this weekend. Heat index values could climb into the upper 90s to near 105 degrees Sunday and Monday, potentially leading to heat advisories across parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. We are also monitoring the chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms late Sunday and again Monday. The atmosphere may become very unstable, meaning a few storms could be strong if a front or other lifting mechanism develops.
