Bloomberg Malaysia strike out bid rejected [vjWF2qaRSVC]
The High Court has dismissed Bloomberg Malaysia Sdn Bhd's application to strike out a libel suit filed by Bestinet Sdn Bhd and its founder Datuk Seri Aminul Islam Abdul Nor over reports alleging migrant worker exploitation. Judge Roslan Mat Nor ruled that issues concerning Bloomberg Malaysia’s pleadings on the article titled “Everyone Gets A Cut, And Migrant Workers Pay The Price” require full examination at trial and cannot be decided summarily. Among matters needing scrutiny are whether Bloomberg Malaysia was involved in the publication or has control over the Bloomberg main website, which states it is operated by Bloomberg LP in New York. The court also ordered RM5,000 in costs. Bloomberg’s counsel argued the article was published by the parent company, while the plaintiffs’ lawyer said Bloomberg Malaysia’s role must be tested at trial.
