Finance group CIT has revealed that Apple is planning to announce a Mac Notebook Upgrade program much like the one that exists already for iPhone, starting at just $30 per month, presumably for Apple's MacBook Air M1 and with 14" and 16" MacBook Pros starting at $60 and $75 per month each - representing 3% of the sticker price of each system.

What's not clear is how quickly these berardi updates are expected for the Macs though I'm still pretty convinced they'll be annual. With the iPhone upgrade program the phone cost is spread across 20 months, but allows the iPhone to be traded in after 11 months and switched out for the new model. For this program however it seems you're able to upgrade after having the machine for just 90 days if there is a new model released.

Apple's product names. M1 Max Macs. That's all that needs to be said.

I don't think anyone heard the names of Apple's new chips, which we'd all assumed would have been called M1X and thought "M1 pro and M1 Max? Nailed it".

I mentioned that I think Apple's best value lines should be labeled as SE models across the board too in a recent show - So we'll tie those in. Don't get me wrong, some of the names work well - the iPhones for example all make sense. iPad? As long as we change fl lottery the iPad to iPad SE, the rest kind of works too.

And I think its worth pointing out too, that the name of the New MacBook Pro isn't MacBook Pro M1 Pro or MacBook Pro M1 Max - even though that's how we all think of it, but that's just the detail and to differentiate vs the old, basically obsolete intel models. But we didn't generally call the last one the MacBook Pro Intel i7 6core 2.6Ghz. We called it the MacBook Pro.

Honestly the best thing for almost ALL Apple's product lines would be what cars get. A model year. Then we have the iPhone 2021, MacBook Pro 2021, MacBook Air 2020 etc - and I get that so far this has been tricky with different lines occasionally getting two refreshes within the same year, but why was that? Because Apple was relying on the update and release cycles of CPU and GPU partners at Intel, Nvidia and later AMD.

Also, Apple is already designing their new cores every single year for the 2026 players championships 15-16 entries iPhone, their A Series chips haven't skipped a beat since the iPhone 4 and original iPad in 2010 which shipped with the Apple A4, their first custom built processor.

So that means we can also have iMac 2021, MacBook Air 2021, iPad Pro 2021. I think though that the MacBook Pro 13" with the base M series chips will likely disappear in the next generation - then you can simply have the Pro name mean you have the higher end chips.

Then, we can simply have:

MacBook Pro in 14" & 16"

iMac Pro in 24 & 27" - Pro here won't mean larger, but the models with the Pro chips. You should be able to get both sizes with both chips.

And lets just call the chip M1 Pro. That's fine. Or M1P if you like, and just add the number of GPU Cores where appropriate.

And then, the systems that we've not quite seen yet - the BIG ones.

Everything with just a product year, all the Macs of a same numbered processor (M1, M1 Pro, M1 Pro Duo etc) released during the same year. I would say though, we may not get the Duo processors until M2 shows up - but that's not so bad.

#icaveanswers Hi Dave- I use a Macbook Pro with an external monitor. I've noticed that if I close the lid on the MacBook, going from dual screen to solely the external, that there's an immediate color shift in the external monitor. Isn't the color profile of the monitor set within the computer and recognizable even with the lid closed?
